Liv Morgan is opening up about how hard her 2025 injury really hit her, admitting there was a point where she lost faith and struggled emotionally during her time away from WWE.
Speaking on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, the Women’s World Heavyweight Champion talked about the shoulder injury she suffered against Kairi Sane on RAW in June 2025. The injury forced her to vacate the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles and miss several months of action while recovering from surgery. Morgan said the injury affected her mentally more than she expected and left her feeling down for a long stretch.
“Honestly, the injury was really hard for me. Like I took it really hard. I was very sad for a very long time. I’m like a very much like ‘everything happens for a reason’ type person.”
She explained that she usually tries to stay positive no matter what happens, but this injury made her question that mindset.
“Even if something happens that’s terrible. I’m so, like, optimistically delusional that I’m like, ‘No, this happened for my greater good, and maybe I don’t see it now, but I know this happened for my greater good.’ My injury, I was like, ‘No, this happened just to fck me.'”*
Morgan also said missing major WWE events made things even tougher, especially with so much uncertainty about what her return would look like. During one of her lowest points, Morgan said a FaceTime call with Raquel Rodriguez helped shift her mindset. She remembered telling Rodriguez that she had lost faith in what the future might hold.
“I was just on FaceTime, just like being upset as I was always being. And I was just telling her like, ‘I just don’t believe in anything. I don’t have any faith right now on what this looks like on the other side.'”
Rodriguez responded with a simple message that stuck with Morgan and helped her begin turning things around.
“But she just was like, ‘Sister, I feel like when you feel like you have no faith is when you’re supposed to have the most.’ And it was just so simple. But I just was like, ‘Huh!'”
Morgan said that conversation helped her stop feeling sorry for herself and start focusing on getting back to normal again.
“I feel like that was when I was kind of able to stop feeling sorry for myself. And just pick myself up a little bit. But that was like the start of me feeling like, ‘Okay, I’m coming back like mentally, emotionally, and physically.’ And so Raquel definitely, definitely helped me out of some rainy days.”
Morgan eventually returned to WWE and worked her way back to the top, but her comments show just how difficult that recovery period really was behind the scenes.
