Gina Carano posts statement following 17-second loss to Ronda Rousey: “My heart is heavy”

Gina Carano has delivered a statement after being submitted by Ronda Rousey at MVP MMA 1.

Carano entered the cage for the first time since 2009 this past Saturday. She shared the cage with Rousey, who is a fellow women’s MMA pioneer. “Rowdy” hadn’t competed in a pro MMA fight since late 2016. While some fans hoped Carano would give Rousey some issues with her takedown defense, they quickly realized that wouldn’t be the case.

Rousey quickly took Carano down and forced the tap via armbar in 17 seconds. Carano addressed the loss in an Instagram post.

“This was one of the best rides of my life,” Carano wrote. “I felt locked in fight night. No fear just focused positive adrenaline. Love to my team.  My heart is heavy, I wanted to throw, battle, win, but I kicked when I should have moved and was down and done. If I hadn’t tapped she would’ve broken my arm, as it had begun to crackle.

“The disappointment of losing like that is very humbling.”‘

Carano was gracious in defeat and praised Rousey for showcasing her dominance to the younger generation of MMA fans.

“I’m so glad the world got to experience this version of @rondarousey I found a beautiful woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister and legend. I adore you lady.

“We made history, again. I hope @mostvaluablepromotions MMA @netflix continue on because they CRUSHED it. Respect where respect is due. @nakisabidarian @jakepaul
It was such a great experience.

“Thank you ALL for showing your support. It’s because of you we get to face our fears and live our dreams.

“With all my heart, thank you all.”

Carano also mentioned the words of encouragement she received from former UFC Heavyweight Champions Jon Jones and Cain Velasquez after the fight. She recalled Jones reminding her that it takes courage to step back inside the cage after being away for 17 years.
