Andy Murray will coach Jack Draper during the grass-court season.

When he returns from injury, Draper will have a three-time Grand Slam champion in his corner.

Doubles legend Jamie Murray had mixed emotions when he heard Murray would coach Draper.

How excited are you for Andy Murray to join Jack Draper’s team?

What a signing!

But what does former Grand Slam finalist, Greg Rusedski, think?

Greg Rusedski says Jack Draper made a ‘brilliant appointment’ hiring Andy Murray

During the latest episode of ‘Off Court Cuts‘, Rusedski delivered his immediate reaction to the Murray/Draper news.

“Before we get into the areas that Andy [Murray] can bring into his game. He also said the LTA is going to support him,” said Rusedski.

“So I’m wondering if James Trotman is back in the picture as well, because Trotman wanted to step away a little bit, and Jamie Delgado was going to be the full-time coach.

“So that announcement tells me Trots is going to be involved.

“Obviously, Andy Murray is going to be the one leading the grass-court season, plus he’s using the medical staff at the LTA.

“It’s always great when you get a former world number one, two-time Wimbledon champion, he’s British as well, on top of that, his results, having won Queen’s five times.

“But the key ingredient for Jack Draper is to get healthy! That is the most important thing.”

Rusedski believes Murray can be a big help to Draper over the coming months.

“Andy has the experience of having to deal with those hips, the multiple surgeries, finding a way through,” said Rusedski.

“If Andy can get him on court with a team of people from the LTA, then that’s a huge positive.

“He needs to have consistency, because it looked like the shoulder was good, then all of a sudden, the knee injury occurred in Barcelona, which was majorly disappointing.

“It’s going to be fascinating to see how this evolves, and how much time Andy is going to be with Jack, and whether Jack can be healthy.

“If he can be healthy, then this is a brilliant appointment.

“If you think about it, who do you want, who knows how to handle the British media, the pressure from the Brits coming on, and on top of that, you can’t really say to Andy, ‘You don’t know what it’s like to win Wimbledon on multiple occasions, you don’t know what it’s like to win Queen’s.’

“He can give him all of that experience, knowledge, and how to manage the difficulties of the British press, the media, and the expectation that’s on his shoulders at the moment.”

Rusedski was also keen to comment on Draper’s decision to part ways with Jamie Delgado.

“Health is wealth,” he said.

“If he’s hitting already, that’s an excellent sign.

“There must have been something with him and Jamie that didn’t work out with communication, how they saw the game, or how they saw the building and development of him.

“You could see that Jack got a lot skinnier; he was losing a lot of weight in the upper body, and then all of a sudden, came the knee injury.

“So I guess it’s getting the balance of the sports science, with the physical trainer and the coach all being on one page.”

Rusedski then looked ahead to the future, reminding fans how dangerous Draper can be when healthy.

“I don’t know any other player that has had this much stop, start in their career,” he said.

“Last year he was on fire, Indian Wells, Madrid, and ever since Wimbledon, he’s barely played any matches.”

“Let’s hope this is the solution. If he’s not seeded, it doesn’t matter.

“He’s such a good player, when he’s playing at his best, nobody wants to play him.”

Rusedski mentioned Draper’s early-season form last year, but just how impressive was he?

Draper was well on course to qualify for the ATP Finals before injuries derailed his 2025 campaign.

The Briton won his first Masters 1000 title, reached another final, and picked up a win over Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
