GUNTHER is not overlooking Cody Rhodes for a second — but he is already teasing a future showdown with Brock Lesnar.
Speaking with Italian Wrestling Channel ahead of Clash in Italy, GUNTHER addressed Lesnar’s recent WWE return and the possibility of finally stepping into the ring against “The Beast.” While GUNTHER made it clear his full attention is currently on challenging Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship, he definitely did not shut the door on Lesnar.
“I’m really focused on what I’m doing with Cody now.”
GUNTHER reminded fans that his immediate goal is capturing WWE’s top championship in Turin.
“I will be challenging for the WWE Undisputed Championship in Italy, and that’s my full focus right now.”
Then came the line that immediately got wrestling fans talking.
“After I beat Cody, then Brock can challenge me, and we’ll do that.”
The matchup has been heavily discussed among fans for years because GUNTHER and Lesnar have surprisingly never wrestled a singles match against each other in WWE or anywhere else.
Reports previously claimed WWE had considered booking the match for WrestleMania 41 before Brock Lesnar was pulled from plans following the Janel Grant amended complaint in early 2025. The two men have only shared the ring during Royal Rumble matches, making the dream match one of the biggest untouched attractions left in WWE.
Lesnar recently returned to WWE television on the May 18 episode of RAW when he attacked Oba Femi following Femi’s open challenge. That attack eventually led to WWE setting up a rematch between Lesnar and Femi for Clash in Italy as well.
Meanwhile, GUNTHER heads into Italy looking to add another major championship to his already dominant WWE run after holding the Intercontinental Championship for a record-breaking 666 days and becoming one of the company’s top main-event stars since his 2022 call-up.
WWE Clash in Italy takes place May 30 from the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy. If GUNTHER defeats Cody Rhodes, the possibility of Brock Lesnar eventually stepping up to challenge him instantly becomes one of WWE’s biggest possible matches moving forward.
