HUNGARY 5-0 GREAT BRITAIN – Ice Hockey UK

Great Britain were beaten 5-0 by Hungary in their third game at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship at the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich.

Ben Bowns started between the pipes with Mat Robson as back-up. Josh Tetlow returned to the line-up in place of Sam Lyne with Pete Russell opting to go with eight defenceman and 12 forwards.

Hungary lead by two at first intermission
Bowns made an early pad save to deny Csanad Erdely, but Hungary when ahead when Krisztian Nagy went short-side from the right-circle (02:19).

Josh Waller twice shot just wide from the slot and Nathanael Halbert was denied by the pads of Bence Balizs as GB found momentum at the midway point of the period.

Hungary took a two-goal lead when good movement in the offensive zone ended with Doman Szongoth scoring on his backhand (18:14).

Short-handed goal extends Hungary lead to three
Istvan Terbocs scored short-handed on a breakaway (23:31) which saw a change in net as Robson replaced Bowns.

Erdely broke clear of the GB defence and Robson made a big save with his skate before Joe Hazeldine cleared the puck off the line.

Cade Neilson shot just over from the slot and GB had a flurry of chances on successive powerplays, with Liam Kirk going close twice and Waller’s shot pinging off the top of the bar.

Two goals in 41 seconds secure big win for Hungary
GB killed-off a penalty either side of the second intermission and Robson made a good pad save on Janos Hari just as the Hungary powerplay came to an end.

Johnny Curran was denied on a breakaway and at the other end, Robson turned away efforts from Erdely and Szongoth on another Hungary powerplay.

Hungary killed the game off with two goals in 41 seconds as Terbocs shot across Robson on a two-on-one break (53:24) and Nagy netted from the slot (54:05).

GB have no action tomorrow and return to action on Thursday against hosts Switzerland at 20:20 (19:20 BST).
