Pakistan Women have been fined 5% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against India in Birmingham.
Match officials ruled that Pakistan were one over short of the required rate after taking time allowances into account. Under ICC rules, teams are fined when they fail to complete their overs within the allotted time.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accepted the offence, which meant no formal hearing was required. The charge was imposed by the match officials following the Group A clash.
The fine added to a difficult outing for Pakistan, who suffered a heavy 64-run defeat against India.
Batting first, India posted 170/6 in their 20 overs. Smriti Mandhana led the scoring with 68 runs, while Richa Ghosh provided late momentum with a quick 34 off just 17 balls.
Pakistan struggled during the chase and were bowled out for 106 in 17 overs. Left-arm spinner Deepti Sharma starred with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul to seal a comfortable Indian victory.
India’s fielding was also a major factor in the result. Reflecting on the team’s performance, Deepti said: “Cricket is a game where, if you catch every ball and if you take all the catches, you always win matches. And I think that’s what happened while fielding. We wanted to give ourselves to every ball and are really happy with the way we fielded and the overall game.”
The result strengthened India’s position in Group A. India will next face the Netherlands Women’s National Cricket Team, while Pakistan will look to bounce back against the South Africa Women’s National Cricket Team in their next match.
