Jake Doyle is officially back on AEW television after a brutal injury stopped his momentum earlier this year. Doyle made his return during the May 27 episode of AEW Dynamite in Philadelphia, marking his first appearance since tearing his biceps during an AEW World Tag Team Championship match back in January.
Doyle showed up late during the Superstation Showcase four-way match involving Rush, Brian Cage, Orange Cassidy, and Lio Rush after chaos broke out at ringside involving Rocky Romero and Lance Archer.
The appearance marked Doyle’s first AEW appearance since January when he tore his biceps during a tag title match against FTR. The injury happened after an apron DDT spot involving Cash Wheeler, and Doyle was quickly removed from the match once officials realized the injury was serious.
The injury completely derailed what was shaping up to be a breakout run for Doyle in AEW. Before getting hurt, he had already been worked into the Don Callis Family storyline and was becoming part of the company’s tag team title picture.
Even though Doyle did not wrestle during Dynamite, the return clearly signaled that AEW still has plans for him moving forward after his push was abruptly cut short earlier this year.
Do you think Jake Doyle can quickly rebuild the momentum he had before getting injured? Let us know in the comments.
