The Golden State Warriors built their roster with a one-year push in mind, but a series of major injuries derailed that approach, via Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Jimmy Butler missed 44 games due to a torn ACL, Stephen Curry was sidelined for 39 games, and Al Horford sat out 37.
In response, head coach Steve Kerr shuffled lineups frequently, using 43 different starting combinations throughout the season.
Sources say that for Kerr to reconsider, he would need to feel fully confident in his role as the organization begins transitioning toward a rebuild.
The coach has also publicly acknowledged uncertainty about his future, telling ESPN that he is “50-50” on whether he will return.
Kerr took over the Warriors in 2014 and went on to shape one of the most impactful dynasties in NBA history, highlighted by the introduction of the “Death Lineup” and four championship titles.
The current roster, however, is both older and depleted, far removed from those dominant teams.
