We’ve come a long way since the first lacrosse balls were fired in anger in February, and as you might expect, a lot of the later seasons are having an impact in our Top 10.
Sunday is going to see a good quarterfinal game in the New York Class C final. As is tradition, the Nassau County champion (Sayvlle) will take on the Suffolk County champion (Southside) in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. Sometimes, the meeting of the Section 8 and Section 11 champions often decides the state tournament, as Long Island is a center of the girls’ scholastic lacrosse universe.
But up the coast, keep an eye on Darien (Conn.). Think of this: since Darien escaped with a one-goal win over Nyack (N.Y.), the Blue Wave have become a tsunami. Their last five games have been won by a total score of 87-12, and the CIAC Class LL bracket is full of teams that they have already beaten. But that’s no guarantee, and we’ll find out a lot more on the road to the June 13 final.
