Kenny Omega Says The AEW World Title Picture Is The Best It’s Ever Been

Kenny Omega is feeling optimistic about the state of AEW’s main event scene, and he believes the World Title picture has never looked stronger. Speaking with Adam Barnard, the AEW co-founder, said the sheer number of credible contenders sets the current landscape apart.

“This is probably the most exciting for me that the title scene has been. I mean that via the amount of competitors vying for the belt,” Omega said. “Sometimes you’ll have a champion and you’ll know who’s gunning for it, and you know that’s gonna be the story for the long run.”

Omega pointed to the reigning champion, MJF, before rattling off a lengthy list of stars he feels could carry the title at any moment.

“Now, jeez, we have MJF as the champion, but it could easily be Darby. It could easily be a Kyle Fletcher. It could easily be a Takeshita. Kevin Knight. Okada. Who knows? Maybe it could be me. It could be an Ospreay. Swerve,” he said.

For Omega, the depth of the roster is what gives him confidence in AEW’s direction.

“We have so many possibilities where if that belt went around their waist, it wouldn’t look odd. It wouldn’t look out of place,” he said. “I would feel that the company’s in good hands, and I think it’s the first time where we’ve had close to almost 10 guys where you could put that belt on and it’s gonna be okay.”

Omega is among those looking to climb back into the championship conversation himself. Since returning to action following his lengthy health battle, he has been steadily rebuilding momentum, recently putting MJF and Zack Sabre Jr. on notice. The picture at the top of AEW gets another shake-up this weekend at Forbidden Door, where MJF leads a team into a 12-man steel cage match and the Owen Hart Cup final between Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland carries a future World Title shot at All In.
