Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways when they visit old rivals Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday night.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night and have now won just one of their last four matches, losing twice.

United had shown huge improvement when Michael Carrick was appointed as caretaker head coach until the end of the season back in January, but the Manchester giants are now on their worst run since the former midfielder took charge.

It remains to be seen whether or not United will choose to appoint Carrick on a permanent basis this summer, but in the meantime it has emerged that those in charge of the club have made contact with one of the world’s most highly-rated young managers.

According to indykaila News, the hierarchy at Manchester United have reached out to the representatives of Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

The 38-year-old made a name for himself during his tenure at Hoffenheim, taking charge of the club in 2016 and making an immediate impact as he guided the relegation-threatened side to Champions League qualification.

Nagelsmann left Hoffenheim in 2019 to join fellow Bundesliga outfit RB Leizpig, where he reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and also finished as runners-up in the DFB-Pokal in 2021.

The German was then appointed as Bayern Munich manager in 2021, and it was during his time in Bavaria that he lifted his first senior trophy.

When he left Bayern in 2023 Nagelsmann had won three trophies including the Bundesliga title, and that earned him a chance to manager the Germany national side.

Since taking charge, he has guided Germany to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, as well as successfully qualifying for the upcoming World Cup in the United States.
