The Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur are not officially in a “Super Bowl or bust” position, but that label could start to fit depending on how the season unfolds. Over the past few years, Green Bay has consistently added talent meant to push the roster forward, yet the results have still fallen short of championship expectations.
The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman recently highlighted the 10 members of the Packers facing the most pressure this season, with head coach Matt LaFleur ranking at the top of the list.
“Who knows what stipulations are in LaFleur’s new contract regarding what happens if he doesn’t win enough in the near future? There may or may not be pressure on the head coach in that regard, but the intangible pressure from both inside and outside the building should be palpable,” commented the NFL insider in his article.
Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers under presure
The Packers have not reached the Super Bowl since the 2010 season, and they have not appeared in an NFC Championship Game since 2020. The team last won the division in 2021 and has finished as the No. 7 playoff seed in each of the past three seasons, reflecting a stretch of consistent postseason appearances but limited deep playoff runs.
“After inking a long-term contract extension this offseason, LaFleur needs to deliver now for one of the most storied franchises.”

Following last season’s outcome, there was real uncertainty about whether the Packers would retain LaFleur, but the organization ultimately decided to stick with him. Still, pressure is building heading into the new season, with this year potentially shaping up as a defining stretch for his tenure and possibly placing him firmly on the hot seat depending on results.
Packers have struggled to turn regular-season promise into postseason success in recent years, and that reality could put added pressure on Matt LaFleur to deliver a deep playoff run if he wants to remain in place beyond this season. While the roster has shown enough talent to compete at a high level, the challenge now is translating that potential into consistent performance and tangible results when it matters most.
