- Maverick Games’ AAA driving game teased for 2 June reveal
- New image hints at French Riviera location
Maverick Games’ highly anticipated, AAA open-world driving game looks set to be revealed next week.
A live video feed on the studio’s YouTube channel shows a parked Fiat Multipla with a countdown on the headrest pointing to 2 June, 11 am BST, seemingly confirming exactly when the game will be revealed.
It coincides with a torrent of high-profile gaming shows next week, including Sony’s State of Play and Summer Games Fest, followed by the Xbox Games Showcase on 8 June.
Over the last few weeks, the Leamington Spa-based studio has been teasing its upcoming open-world driving game in screenshots depicting high-quality car exteriors and interiors, with the latest showing a front view of a 930-generation Porsche 911 Turbo.
In another teaser, Maverick Games’ Founder and Creative Director Mike Brown is seen holding what appears to be an in-game screenshot of scenic roads, with a “R1K Riviera” air freshener hinting at a French Riviera setting.
Incidentally, this was the same location seen in Forza Horizon 2, which Brown also worked on as a Game Designer.
While no other details are available, it seems likely that the game’s first trailer will be revealed next week.
In March, Brown revealed that the studio’s debut driving game had entered post-production and was “content complete” and “fully playable,” with work on the reveal trailer also underway.
“I think that’s [the trailer] been a really nice exercise for the team,” he said in a podcast. “As much as you are content complete and fully playable, there are not that many elements of it that look really polished.”
Last week, Maverick Games also hinted that the game’s multiplayer component will be “a bit different.”
“When you’re all playing together, there are bits of it that make sense because you’re actually live communicating with each other,” said Brown.
“So those people who are making that mode understand the nuances of it and scoring systems, but a ‘cold’ player coming in doesn’t really understand that and you realise that the game wasn’t actually telling them at all.
“A lot of the game design was happening verbally, but it was like ‘no no, you’ve got to put that on screen’.”

First announced in 2024 after the studio was formed in 2022, Maverick’s debut title is described as a “narrative-led, open-world driving game” for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Amazon Game Studios was originally set to publish the game before the developer split from the publisher. Despite this, the studio still owns the intellectual property rights, but has yet to confirm if it has secured a new publisher.
A release date, window, or game title has yet to be revealed, either, but more will hopefully be revealed next week when the countdown ends on 2 June.
