Hi, everyone, and welcome to Statwatch.
As the season winds to an end, we’re seeing a number of players sweeping through our early-season leaders during their post-seasons. Take, for instance, Scarlett Gilner, a senior midfielder from Chapel Hill (N.C.). She now leads the country (that we know of) in goals scored with 139.
Chapel Hill is playing tonight in the North Carolina Class 7A quarterfinals in an attempt to extend their season. The opponent this evening is Waxhaw Marvin Ridge (N.C.), the top seed in their half of the bracket. Marvin Ridge has a defender on its roster named Libby Castle. Her aunt, Michelle Vizzuso Crawford, played field hockey for the United States at the 1996 Olympics. It is going to take that level of talent in order to oppose an attacker like Gilner.
Below in the red are our usual provisional gathering of American scholastic lacrosse statistics from available published sources, including MaxPreps, Berks Game Day, the KHSAA, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, PhillyLacrosse, and Advance Media. If we can get more teams, state federations, and local leagues to adopt the easy-to-use MaxPreps.com platform, we can aim for as complete a statistical picture of the country as possible.
