Maya Fujisawa Keuling Wins Girls State Junior Championship at Country Club of Terre Haute

Indiana Golf Foundation, Terre Haute, IN. (June 12, 2026)

The Girls State Junior Championship returned to The Country Club of Terre Haute June 10-12, bringing together some of Indiana’s top junior girls for three days of championship golf and a chance to earn a spot in the 77th U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship.

The event was met with beautiful playing conditions each day, giving the field a strong test at Terre Haute Country Club. While the days themselves provided great weather for golf, each evening brought a different story, with storms moving through the area and one night even producing tornado warnings. Despite the unpredictable weather surrounding the event, play continued under excellent conditions, allowing the championship to be decided on the course.

Throughout the week, the leaderboard remained active, with several players making moves and rising into contention. The championship had the feel of an open race for much of the event, with momentum shifting throughout the first two rounds. But on the final day, Maya Fujisawa Keuling made her move to the top and never let go.

Fujisawa Keuling delivered her best round of the week when it mattered most, firing a 4-under-par final round to finish the championship at 1-under overall. Her steady play down the stretch helped her separate from the field, ultimately securing the title by five shots over runner-up Kennedy Gutierrez.

After the round, Fujisawa Keuling said the moment was still sinking in.

“I’m feeling really excited and basically overwhelmed right now,” Fujisawa Keuling said.

The win marked a back-to-back championship performance for Fujisawa Keuling, who entered the week with experience from last year’s U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship. She said her mindset this year felt different, especially as she found herself near the top of the leaderboard throughout the event.

“Last year, I was just trying to stay focused,” Fujisawa Keuling said. “This year was a little different because I was in first or second, so I was just trying to stay focused and play really well.”

Her final round proved to be the difference, as Fujisawa Keuling combined patience, strong ball striking and timely scoring to take control of the championship over the closing holes. On a course where the back nine provided a strong test, she leaned on different parts of her game throughout the week.

“The first day, I’d say my irons were really good, and my drives,” Fujisawa Keuling said. “The second and third day, my putting was a lot better, so I think my short game today was probably better.”

With the win, Fujisawa Keuling earned her place in the 77th U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship, adding even more meaning to an already memorable week at Terre Haute Country Club.
