McLaren harks back to F1 origins with special British GP livery

McLaren has released a special one-off livery for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, the colour scheme celebrating the team’s very first car.

The Woking-based squad is this year commemorating 60 years since founder Bruce McLaren first entered his eponymous team’s debut F1 car during the 1966 season Grand Prix season.

Kiwi McLaren raced the M2B for the first time at the Monaco Grand Prix, and scored its first point at the British Grand Prix, held at Brands Hatch.

He would follow this up with a further two points at the US GP at Watkins Glen.

This car was, as part of additional celebrations for its 1000th race at Monaco, taken for a lap of the famed street circuit last month by legendary McLaren driver Mika Hakkinen, in front of a host of other ex-McLaren legends.

And at Silverstone this weekend, the colour scheme – white with a green central stripe – will adorn the MCL40.

The livery, produced in partnership with key sponsor Google Gemini, has been accompanied by the tagline: ‘Spark What’s Next’.

Louise McEwen, Chief Marketing Officer of McLaren, said: “Our Silverstone livery is a celebration of where we began and everything we have built since. The McLaren M2B represents the start of a journey defined by relentless innovation and a belief in possibility, and this design brings that spirit to life.

“Our partnership with Google Gemini is grounded in those same principles. Together, we are exploring how technology can unlock new ways to innovate, iterate and push performance forward, both on and off the track. This livery is a powerful expression of that shared mindset, honouring our heritage while looking firmly to the future.”

Marvin Chow, Vice President, Consumer and AI Marketing, Google, added: “From sparking creative ideas with the Gemini app to securely turning complex datasets into real-time trackside intelligence with Gemini Enterprise, McLaren is showing what it means to harness the power of AI.

“We’re excited to continue exploring new ways Gemini can fuel their creativity, business, and trackside strategy.”
