Mick Foley is clearing the air about his WWE exit, and he says the door is not locked forever whatsoever.
While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Foley addressed his decision to step away from WWE over the company’s connection to Donald Trump. Foley said one WWE response was respectful and that he later heard from someone high up in the company who pointed out that Paul Levesque was involved with physical fitness efforts and that Linda McMahon had not worked in WWE for years.
“Well, the first one was, ‘I respect your stance, and I’ll tell the people in charge.’ Then I did receive a call from someone really high up, and they were saying how Paul was with the physical fitness department, and Linda hasn’t worked in WWE for years.”
Foley then made it clear that he has not closed the door on WWE forever. However, he said his stance remains tied to Donald Trump being in office, adding that Trump does things for the sake of cruelty.
“I didn’t close the door forever. I said, as long as this man’s in office…I think more and more people are realizing what he’s doing is cruelty for the sake of cruelty. I have no ill will towards WWE.”
Foley also revealed that he did not hear directly from Triple H or the McMahon family after making his stance public. That part clearly hit him hard because of his long personal history with them.
“No, I did not hear from Paul Levesque or anyone from the McMahon family. The saddest part is that I did have a great history with Paul and Stephanie McMahon. Vince McMahon meant so much to me. So I knew going in that it was going to affect those friendships.”
The comments come after Disco Inferno criticized Foley on Twitter for walking away from WWE over the company’s connection to Trump. Disco argued that WWE’s link to the administration involved youth fitness and nutrition and said Foley’s decision did not make sense to him.
Foley previously said Trump’s comments after the deaths of Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner were the final straw for him. Even then, Foley made it clear that he still loved WWE and appreciated the opportunities the company gave him. Now, Foley is part of AEW after debuting at Double or Nothing, but his latest remarks show he is not completely shutting the door on WWE down the line. For now, though, his position remains firm.
