The hockey world continues to be completely obsessed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Stanley Cup Final media day and locker cleanout day in Montreal provided the latest reminder of that reality. Every conversation seemed to find its way back to the Leafs, further proving that no matter who’s still playing, Toronto remains the league’s biggest talking point.
We previewed Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final to kick off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. Mitch Marner and the Vegas Golden Knights are in Carolina to square off against Frederik Andersen and the Hurricanes in what’s shaping up to be a fascinating matchup.
Meantime, following the Gadowsky interview, we touched on Zach Werenski capturing the Norris Trophy before shifting our focus to the Toronto Marlies’ 5-3 loss in Game 3 of the AHL Eastern Conference Final. Despite the setback, the Marlies still hold a 2-1 series lead, with Game 4 set for Wednesday night in Toronto.
Speaking of the Marlies, former head coach Dallas Eakins was spotted at the game. Naturally, that led to a discussion about Eakins—who’s a regular guest on our show—as a potential candidate for the Leafs’ coaching vacancy. Rosie reflected on his experience playing for Eakins and the significant impact he had on his career. Needless to say, it was interesting to see Eakins in Toronto right in the midst of the Leafs’ coaching search. Lastly, we crossed Manny Malhotra’s name off the list of coaching candidates. As expected, Vancouver officially named him their next head coach.
At any rate, there’s plenty coming your way on Wednesday’s edition of Leafs Morning Take as David Pagnotta subs in once again for Rosie. We’ll recap Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final and break down any relevant Leafs news that emerges. Plus, veteran NHL head coach Gerard Gallant is scheduled to stop by the show, too.
