Liverpool’s search for a new manager goes on following the sacking of Arne Slot on Saturday.

The Reds confirmed on Saturday morning that they had parted company with Slot, who guided the Merseyside outfit to the Premier League title just 12 months ago.

Despite that success, Slot’s side had struggled this season and ultimately ended up finishing fifth in the Premier League, as well as failing to win a trophy.

Andoni Iraola – who left Bournemouth after their final game of the season – is the early favourite to succeed Slot, but in the meantime it has emerged that one of the club’s greatest ever players could make a shock return to Anfield.

As reported by indykaila News, Mohamed Salah could be open to the idea of making a sensational return to Liverpool if the club reach out to him.

The report claims that the Egyptian – who departed Liverpool this month – could be tempted to return now that Slot has left the club.

Salah, 33, joined Liverpool from Italian side Roma in 2017 and went on to play more than 440 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 257 goals and providing 123 assists.

The Egypt international won nine trophies during his time with the Reds, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

This season he struggled to recreate his finest form, though, and at the turn of the year he was involved in a public spat with Slot after claiming that someone at the club was trying to ‘throw him under the bus’.

Salah has not yet found a new club since leaving Liverpool but has previously been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
