Napoli Waiting to Cut Down Their Squad Before Adding

Napoli haven’t been very active early in the summer, despite trying to set up at least a pair of early acquisitions, because they have to evaluate who’s a keeper and a goner in their large squad. In the meantime, Massimiliano Allegri appears to have sorted out his issues with Milan and should be formally announced soon, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via MSN).

While they haven’t added anybody new, the Partenopei have already spent big. Rasmus Hojlund, Alisson Santos, and Lorenzo Lucca had joined on initial loans. Those bills came due this month, totaling nearly €86,5M.

Napoli need to make decisions in pretty much every position. They have four goalies, including two starting-caliber ones. Neither is sure to stay. Despite his recent remarks, the future of Romelu Lukaku is very up in the air, considering his €12M gross salary. Frank Anguissa is in doubt yet again.

None of their loanees has been brought out. Allegri and the front office must make calls on Luca Marianucci, Rafa Marin, Michael Folorunsho, Jens Cajuste, Cyril Ngonge, Jesper Lindstrom, Lorenzo Lucca, Noa Lang, Luis Hasa, Alessio Zerbin, and Walid Cheddira.

The Azzurri face competition from Inter and Atalanta for Anan Khalaili and Mario Gila, respectively. They’d track Richard Rios if they needed to replace Anguissa. Roma and more sides are keen on the Benfica ace too, though.

Our Take on Napoli

Their director will have his work cut out for him to make the squad somewhat manageable and recoup resources since many of their recent signings have gone pear-shaped. On the other hand, if they play their cards right, they have many bargaining chips to utilize.
