Nico Hischier’s agent on where they’re at with regards to an extension with the New Jersey Devils
Puck Pedia Hockey Show: Allain Roy, Nico Hischier‘s agent, on where things are at. He’s eligible for a contract extension after July 1st.
Keith Kavanaugh: “Nico Hischier, one of your top clients, is eligible for an extension starting on July 1st. It’s already been reported that you had some initial conversations with Sunny Mehta. Walk us through kind of that process when you have a client whose extension eligible. He’s a player at a premium position. He’s a two-way beast. He’s a guy that’s going to do really well on his next contract. He’s in his prime years right now.”
Roy: “Sunny’s a new GM gentleman. Very, very nice guy, very smart, very sharp, especially numbers guy. We’ve had a couple conversations. Right now, it’s still – we’re still not kind of formulating any finite numbers yet.
Nico and I, and Nico just finished the World Championships, where they lost the gold in a heartbreaking overtime. So, you know, I’ve kind of let him play there, because he, like, he really wanted to win gold for Switzerland. For him, he’s the captain, it’s his team, they picked him first.

Of course, we’re having conversations about, ‘hey, what’s it going to look like if we stay.’ And you’re right to make the comment, especially a top-tier player.
He’s at its highest point of his value, if you were going to trade him the year before his contract expires, because then you could probably do a sign and trade, and somebody knows they’ve got them, and all that good stuff, right? Don’t think it would be Sunny’s choice to wait until next summer.
So, yeah, the next, the next month’s going to be important. Figure out kind of where things are at. But hey, Nico is a particular player. He brings offense. He’s so good defensive. He’s good in the face-off circle. He’s kind of (Aleksander) Barkov 2.0 a little bit, right?”
