Packers’ Rookie Gets Real On Pro Bowl Mentor

The Packers believe Brandon Cisse has a high ceiling in the NFL, and the second-round cornerback out of South Carolina is learning from one of the best to ever play the position to help reach it.

During Green Bay’s rookie minicamp, cisse opened up about his mentor, All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and the relationship the two have shared as he begins forging his NFL career.

“I reached out to him, got his card at an event and just sent (a message) to him,” Cisse said, via the team’s official website, about how the two met. “Just a huge fan of him and when I was able to get him – his number, kind of hit it off because he’s a football guy. I couldn’t ask for a better mentor than somebody who’s going to be wearing a gold jacket.”

Given the connection to the Gamecocks program that Gilmore and Cisse share, it proved to be the foundation of their relationship, and here’s little doubt that the Packers’ rookie is a far savvier player for having gotten to know him.

Gilmore, 35, retired from the NFL, having last played for the Minnesota Vikings back in 2024, but Cisse’s career is only just beginning.
