Path of Exile 2’s Return of the Ancients update 0.5.0 introduces a series of environmental cues and layout changes that ease campaign navigation for newer players and help veterans reach endgame quicker.

Following the reveal of the massive endgame revamp coming in PoE2’s 0.5.0 update at the end of the month, publisher and developer Grinding Gear Games has released a new video that focuses on its efforts to streamline the campaign.

Path of Exile 2’s 0.5.0 Update Streamlines Campaign Navigation

The changes can be spotted as early as Act 1’s Grelwood area. Following the river upstream always leads to the Red Vale, whose entrance could often prove surprisingly elusive.

Magical roots with a subtle glowing effect also lead towards The Tree of Souls, while spotting mushrooms on the ground means that the entrance to The Grim Tangle is nearby.

Path of Exile 2’s campaign navigation streamlining efforts mainly target its larger areas, especially those that branch out to several other locations.

The Hunting Grounds is getting a signpost on the road that points towards Ogham Village when update 0.5.0 goes live. Slaughtered cattle indicate you’re getting close to The Crowbell boss, while the area’s ritual spawns a trail of locusts that lead to Freythorn.

Rituals inside Freythorn and endgame areas also create trails of locusts leading to the next encounter of the same type.

Arriving in Act 3’s Titan Valley immediately faces you with a set of titan heads, each of which has an entrance nearby that leads to a linear canyon. Activating the seal at the end spawns a portal that takes you back to the start.

The explorer camps in the jungle areas point towards the next area, revealing it on the minimap, while a few entrances, like that of the Matlan Waterways, have been moved to facilitate easier navigation.

Path of Exile 2’s campaign streamlining efforts touch upon various other zones not included in the video embedded below and should hopefully result in getting lost less in its bigger areas.

The Return of the Ancients update goes live on May 29.
