Ronda Rousey has done almost everything in combat sports and entertainment — and now she says pro wrestling may actually be the purest version of fight choreography.
Ahead of her MMA return fight against Gina Carano this weekend, Rousey reflected on the different stages of her career during an interview with Whistle.
The former UFC champion explained how each chapter of her life naturally led into the next, starting with judo at the Olympics before transitioning into MMA, acting, and eventually WWE. Rousey admitted she originally struggled badly with public speaking and being on camera early in her career.
“Being an athlete that also has to entertain was MMA and having to learn how to be on camera and stuff like that, which I used to be petrified of public speaking.”
She then explained how acting in action movies and learning fight choreography eventually helped prepare her for pro wrestling.
“That kind of segued me into pro wrestling, which I feel like is the purest form of fight choreography.”
Rousey spent several years in WWE after leaving UFC and became one of the company’s biggest crossover stars during her run. Now, after time away from both WWE and MMA, Rousey is preparing to step back into combat sports again this weekend.
