Rings of Europe has at last commented on the controversy surrounding the promotion, which resulted in their most recent event being canceled.
The promotion reportedly made a fake nude image of Polish wrestler Diana Strong and shared it among male wrestlers, all without Strong’s consent.
The intended plan was for the image to be used to cost Strong a match, and it would be featured heavily at the event and on social media.
This led to a mass boycott of wrestlers, resulting in the event that was scheduled for June 20 being nixed shortly before it was supposed to happen.
In a post (translated into English) shared on Facebook, Rings of Europe shared the following message:
“Since we were faced relatively late with the final cancellation of the show, the official cancellation didn’t take place until approx. 18.00 P.M. At that time, some fans were already either on the ground or on the road. The majority of the staff decided to forgo an appearance. There were some wrestlers who would have competed, but it didn’t make sense quantitatively then. ÖTICKET has already started refunding SA show tickets. A detailed talk will follow, as mentioned before, in the next few days! We ask for understanding!”
In a later statement, it was shared that a discussion will be taking place about the mistakes made and the next steps going forward:
“Host Pascal Signer will present the Euro-Wresting Drive-Thru this time and has invited Marc Landauer and Roman Tausch to discuss the events, the mistakes that were made and the effects in retrospect. Release scheduled for the end of the week!”
