Sean Payton shares crucial Bo Nix offseason injury update

After watching his 2026 season end in the worst way possible, suffering a broken ankle in the final moments of a thrilling 33-30 overtime win over the Buffalo Bills, Bo Nix’s recovery timeline received a positive update from Sean Payton.

Talking to reporters on Saturday, Sean Payton laid out when he expected to have Nix back on the field and how long it should take for the third-year quarterback to ramp up to 100 percent, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

“Coach Sean Payton told reporters that Bo Nix could be on the field in some capacity by the June mini-camp,” Rapoport wrote. “He should be doing some throwing by then and will be good to go in July.

Despite being linked to a few different mid-round quarterbacks during the 2026 pre-draft process, with the New York Jets reportedly trading up to select Caleb Nix’s college roommate, Cade Klubnik, out of Clemson with the 110th pick, the Broncos will be returning the same three quarterbacks they employed last season, with Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger set to back up Nix when he returns.

Fortunately for Payton and company, if the Nix is able to return to the field at full strength in Week 1, the Broncos should remain as potent as ever as they look to pursue another run as the AFC West champions, especially with Jaylen Waddle locked in as a do-it-all speedy WR1. Factor in rookie additions like Jonah Coleman, Kage Casey, and Dallen Bentley, and the Broncos are shaping up to be AFC favorites once more.
