Sheehan opens the series with Atlanta, Betts starts a rehab assignment and Glasnow hits the IL – Dodgers Digest

The Dodgers (23-14) showed life in the series finale on Wednesday in Houston, putting up 12 runs led by three Andy Pages homers. Tyler Glasnow left the game after one inning with a back injury that has now landed him on the IL, but the bullpen held it down with eight innings of one-run ball for a 12-2 win. It helped salvage a tough road trip that began by losing a series in St. Louis, and now the Dodgers return home for a seven-game homestand. They welcome Atlanta for the weekend, as the Barves bring in a team tied for the best record in baseball at 26-12. They just suffered their first series loss of the season, dropping two of three in Seattle.

The Dodgers switch up their lineup a bit against Chris Sale. Andy Pages moves up to cleanup with Kyle Tucker dropping to sixth in the order. Miguel Rojas and Santiago Espinal get the starts against a lefty. Atlanta made a minor change to their original lineup, swapping Mauricio Dubon and Michael Harris II‘s positions.

A couple big injury updates for the Dodgers, starting with Blake Snell.

Snell was lined up to make his final rehab start with OKC tomorrow, but now he’ll get the ball for the Dodgers. Snell maxed out at 55 pitches/4 innings in his three rehab starts and was scheduled to go five innings in his next start, so that’ll probably be the goal for tomorrow. Either way, he’ll be a nice addition to the rotation with Glasnow’s injury.

Which speaking of, Paul Gervase was activated.

Glasnow hits the IL with back spasms, but they’re saying his MRI came back clean and were debating whether or not to IL him earlier today. They did decide to and bring up Gervase after nine outings at OKC. He’s allowed five runs in 12 1/3 innings and has struck out 17, but has also issued nine walks and hit two batters.

Mookie Betts has also started a hopefully short rehab assignment.

Betts joins Enrique Hernandez on the left side of the OKC infield. The plan is for Betts to only play in two rehab games before rejoining the team on Monday, which will lead to a bit of a roster crunch. Chad wrote about that earlier today. Betts’ rehab game was slightly delayed by rain, but he singled in his first AB.
