The Mumbai Indians fly off to Chennai for their second clash against their biggest rivals in the history of the IPL. They would be looking to avenge their defeat from the last game at the Wankhede, which broke the morale of the team, as they faced a staggering defeat by a margin of 103 runs.
The Chennai Super Kings have started the powerplay stunningly against the Mumbai Indians at Chepauk, having dismissed Will Jacks early in the match. Despite that, MI got to a solid power play score with Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir pulling off some big hits in the power play.
However, the power play, which had ended on a perfect note, could have been ruined by the incoming spinner. Noor Ahmed, who was introduced into the attack immediately after the end of the fielding restrictions.
Shivam Dube drops the simplest of catches as Naman Dhir gets an early lifeline
Just after the end of the power play, Noor Ahmed could have delivered a special over with a double blow to the Mumbai Indians had it not been for Shivam Dube dropping one of the most simple catches of this year’s TATA IPL 2026.
Naman Dhir looked to cut the first ball from the Afghan spinner, and the ball came off quite late off the surface, which took the batter’s outside edge and flew back to the fielder positioned at short third man. However, Dube drops one of the easiest catches in the context of any game.

Noor Ahmed strikes back with the massive wicket of Ryan Rickelton
Noor Ahmed’s bounce back at the MA Chidambaram Stadium was truly standout as he dismissed Ryan Rickelton in the very first over after the powerplay. After the centurion from the previous game made a solid start to his innings, he was dismissed just when MI needed him the most to accelerate through that middle phase of the innings.
Having been off to a flyer, Rickelton was dismissed for 37 runs as Noor trapped him bowling to his pads, and the left-hander miscued it as he looked to clear the fence over the fielder at square leg.
Suryakumar Yadav’s poor stint continues as he departs after another good start
Suryakumar Yadav has been undergoing a very poor stint with the bat in this season of the IPL. The batter has averaged fewer than 20 runs this season and has struggled with the bat. After having come out to bat when the team was struggling with two early wickets, Surya played some good shots and had a promising start.
He batted with a good strike rate and played some good shots before being dismissed by an unfortunate delivery from Ramakrishna Ghosh, the debutant, as he found the only fielder out on the offside boundary. Mumbai sank into danger further after the Indian captain’s dismissal.
