The Edmonton Oilers Want Mike Babcock

It sounds like all the major players in the Edmonton Oilers organization want Mike Babcock

Ryan Rishaug: It is sounding like the Edmonton Oilers leadership group is firmly behind the idea of bringing in Mike Babcock as their next head coach. Babcock has met with them.

“It’s a critical time within this organization and it would seem they feel whatever negative publicity may result from this is trumped by the level of urgency to get over the hurdle and win a cup. Katz hasn’t hesitated to make these types of moves in the past.”

Darren Dreger: “Sources: The Edmtn Oilers are consulting with the NHLPA to see if there are objections that must be resolved before potentially hiring Mike Babcock. Amid allegations of invading players privacy, Babcock resigned in CBJ as Head Coach in 2023. Further investigation may be required.”

Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer: Mike Babcock is the Oilers’ choice to be their next head coach.

“What happens sometimes is we sit and we go, ‘Well, let’s just wait and see what transpires over the next little while, and’ but we’re not going to do that today. We’re going to, I’m not going to bull$hit you, I’m going to tell you exactly the way it is, okay?

100% Mike Babcock is the Edmonton Oilers guy. Okay, from ownership to management to the players. He is the selection for the Edmonton Oilers hockey club.

There were several different parties involved with this. At various times, Mike Babcock has not only spoken to Edmonton Oilers owner Darryl Katz, but he has met with Darryl Katz. He has met with the Oilers key players. He has met with Harrison Katz. He’s obviously met with Oilers President Jeff Jackson and Oilers general manager Stan Bowman, and he is the Oilers’ choice.

Jason Gregor: “Sorry, but winning the Cup in 2008 isn’t enough of a reason to hire Babcock. Even if you overlook his actions towards some of his players, his record of no playoff series win since 2013 further illustrates why it would be a horrible decision for the Oilers.”
