Toronto Maple Leafs coaching notes
Overdrive: Darren Dreger said that Dallas Eakins is one of the finalists for the Toronto Maple Leafs head coaching positions.
@Nylanderthews: Dreger mentions on Overdrive that Patrick Roy and Joe Pavelski are still in the mix.
Curtis Pashelka: Joe Pavelski on his interest in the Maple Leafs coaching position: “There’s truth to that stuff. We have had discussions. I’m excited to go through the process and kind of see where it leads.”
Jonas Siegel of The Athletic: The Maple Leafs Leafs shouldn’t make any coaching decisions before June 17th, the last day the Stanley Cup Final could be played on. The Vegas Golden Knights might then allow Bruce Cassidy to talk to teams.
NHL Rumors: Leafs and McKenna, Senators and DeBusk, Red Wings and Pettersson
Bruce Cassidy has recently said he’d be interested in any opening and open to talking to the Maple Leafs to see if there was a fit. The Kings have already hired Peter Laviolette and the Edmonton Oilers may be thinking Mike Babcock. There are no other openings.
Leafs Morning Take: John Gruden, the head coach of the Toronto Marlies, said that he hasn’t spoken to the Leafs about the vacant position, and that he believes he’s 100% ready for the NHL. (the Marlies are in the AHL Final)
Buffalo Sabres 2.0 in Detroit
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: David Pagnotta and Marek talking about the Detroit Red Wings and the domino effect that trading Dylan Larkin could have on the Wings.
Marek: “So let’s take that one step further. If you trade Larkin, you have to trade (Alex) DeBrincat? Because you’re completely changing the timeline that this thing is being done on.”
Pagnotta: “Yeah, and that’s that’s the trickle slash domino effect out of this, you know, because he’s, he’s got what, one, one-year to go?”
Marek: “I think it’s one more, one more year for Larkin, ah for DeBrincat.”
Pagnotta: “DeBrincat, yeah. So, yeah, now you get to a scenario where, if you’re not utilizing some of these assets to help in the immediate, well, now you’ve got two pieces that you can move out and get, you’ll, you’ll get a hell of a return for both of these guys.
A Dylan Larkin Trade: Futures or a Hockey Trade?
But now it just symbolizes this team going in a totally different direction than they wanted to. It’s going back to the whole rebuild discussion. And again, I don’t know how that’s going to be received publicly by the fan base. I imagine it won’t be great. It’s basically Buffalo 2.0 now in Detroit.
