A loud explosion was heard in Boston and surrounding towns Saturday afternoon, with some residents as far as Rhode Island and New Hampshire reporting a “boom” and ground tremors.
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security did not confirm the source of the sound, but said no emergency or public safety requests had been made in the hours immediately after the boom.
