Per Darren Dreger, who by the way is a mouth piece for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vincent Trocheck trade market appears to be cooling. Dreger also suggested that the Rangers appear more willing to keep the veteran center as the Trocheck trade market cools a bit. While all this is certainly a possibility, a huge grain of salt is required since, again, Dreger is a mouthpiece for the Leafs and the Leafs have been rumored to be in on Trocheck.
Given what we know about Chris Drury’s asking price – a young NHL piece and another top prospect, all this screams Dreger doing work for the Leafs in an attempt to lower the asking price. The Leafs have several players that may fit needs on the Rangers. Matthew Knies is the only Leaf skater rumored on the market that fits an immediate need for the Rangers, but there’s no way John Chayka offers Knies for Trocheck unless the Rangers add more.
Nicholas Robertson–Jason’s brother–has been rumored, but he is short at 5’9″. That said, he fits a lot of what Mike Sullivan wants on his team with an elite shot, great skating, and a relentless forecheck and never give up style of play. Easton Cowen and Ben Danford are two prospects to keep an eye on as well.
It’s hard to trust Dreger’s words on the Trocheck trade market. If more sources provide additional concrete details, then sure. But for now, this reeks of attempted market manipulation. All NHL teams do this, by the way.
