Von Miller might finally sign with a contender

Despite having a strong season as a situational pass rusher for the Washington Commanders, Von Miller is still a free agent.

The future Hall of Famer wants to play for at least another season, but at 37, he won’t draw as much attention as he would’ve in the past.

Then again, he can still play at a high level and contribute to a contender in the right situation.

Considering that, CBS Sports analyst Garrett Podell tied him to the Green Bay Packers, given their evident need for help in the pass-rushing department.

The Packers should consider signing Von Miller

“Miller makes plenty of sense on the Packers, given Micah Parsons’ situation. Parsons is recovering from a torn ACL,” Podell wrote. “Miller would be an ideal addition to hold down the fort at the edge rusher spot opposite former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness until Parsons gets back. Once he does, Miller could be a situational pass rusher for the Packers.”

Per Football Reference, Miller played all 17 games last season, starting three and registering 26 total tackles (16 solo), six tackles for loss, 15 QB hits, and 9.0 sacks, the most he’s had since posting 9.5 in 2021.

Parsons will miss the first month of the season at the very least. He might be limited and in a snap count even when he returns, and Miller could come in handy for new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

The Packers took Chris McClellan in the NFL Draft, but they’ve usually taken things slow with their rookies, and expecting him to fill Parsons’ shoes right out of the gate might not be the wisest call.

Miller just wants to play, and he’ll likely sign a team-friendly deal just to get a chance to prove that he still has plenty left in the tank.
