Vuelta a Burgos Féminas 2026 preview: Route, favourites, how to watch and start list

The Spanish streak in the Women’s WorldTour calendar continues with the Vuelta a Burgos Féminas. Starting on Thursday 21st May, the race offers four stages through northern Spain, concluding on Sunday 24th May on Lagunas de Neila.

The Vuelta a Burgos Féminas is a young race having only been added to the WorldTour in 2021. Since its promotion, it has given us a blockbuster list of winners including Anna van der Breggen, Juliette Labous and Demi Vollering. Last year, Marlen Reusser prevailed by almost two minutes ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini thanks to her victories in the second half of the race – a mountaintop finish on Picón Blanco and a 9.4km time-trial.

The 2026 edition of the race sees an extra 144km added compared to last year’s parcours with the time-trial swapped for another road stage, while Picón Blanco has also been switched out in favour of the Lagunas de Neila climb, which featured in the 2025 Vuelta Femenina.

Vuelta a Burgos Féminas 2026 route

Stage 1: Burgos – Burgos (Gamonal), 127km

The opening day begins in the city of Burgos and the lumps and bumps are contained within the first half of the stage, meaning this is one for the sprinters. There’s a right turn in the final 400m that – hopefully – shouldn’t cause too much trouble as it comes off a small roundabout.

Stage 2: Castrojeriz – Bodega Viña Pedrosa. Pedrosa de Duero, 122km

Rolling out from Castrojeriz, this should be a fairly straightfoward day for any sprinter wishing to make it two-from-two. Although the finale looks tough on the profile, it’s only a 3% incline to the finish line.

Stage 3: Busto de Bureba – Medina de Pomar, 126km

The third stage brings a steady climb from the flag drop before a generally easy day out for the peloton, with just two more short Category 3 ascents to come before another probably sprint, though with the final climb coming 14km from the line and the road mostly going downhill from there it could act as a potential springboard for a late move.

Stage 4: Gumiel de Mercado – Lagunas de Neila, 120km

The final day of the race is where the GC will be decided. It’s a tough day out that comes down to the Lagunas de Neila climb (6km, 9.9%), which the women’s peloton last faced at the Vuelta Femenina last year, however they took a different route up to the lagoons.

The 2025 Vuelta went up the southern version of the Lagunas de Neila, however the route this race is taking comes down from Huerta de Arriba, but then heads towards Neila to come up the eastern side of the climb. The official figures for this ascent are 6km at a brutal 9.9% average.
