UFC bantamweight Cameron Smotherman gave staff members a brief scare just months after his viral faint ahead of his last fight.
UFC Macau is hours away as top bantamweights Song Yadong and former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo battle in the main event. The winner could potentially move into a No. 1 contender victory with a win this weekend as the UFC returns to China.
One of the most intriguing UFC Macau undercard fights pits former flyweight title challenger Kai Asakura against bantamweight prospect Cameron Smotherman. It’s a massive fight for both athletes, after Smotherman and Asakura underwent tough times in their promotional tenures.
For Smotherman, it’ll be his first fight since a loss to Ricky Simon last June. He was supposed to fight Ricky Turcios at UFC 324, but the fight was canceled after Smotherman fainted at the UFC 324 official weigh-in.
Luckily, Smotherman’s health issues are a thing of the past, and the talented bantamweight attributed the incident to a bad weight cut. As Smotherman prepares for UFC Macau, he’s in good spirits and took advantage of an opportunity to make fun of himself.

Smotherman, a Dana White’s Contender Series alum, is looking to snap a two-fight skid after an impressive showing in his October 2024 UFC debut. A win over Asakura could be enough to boost his confidence.
Smotherman’s UFC 324 weigh-in incident was one of several concerning cuts so far in 2026. Former UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev ‘nearly died’ cutting weight ahead of his UFC 328 loss to Sean Strickland.
