Mats Sundin delivers promise to Maple Leafs fans: ‘We’re going to do everything we can’
In a video posted to Maple Leafs socials on Monday morning, Sundin addressed fans and spoke about what it means to take on this new role.
“Toronto Maple Leafs fans, I am very proud, humbled, and have a lot of respect of being back, working for the Toronto Maple Leafs,” Sundin said. “It’s the greatest hockey fanbase in the world, that comes with big responsibility. And we’re going to do everything we can to help the Toronto Maple Leafs win and make you guys proud.”
“Very deep experience from playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs for 13 years,” he said. “A long professional career, 11 years as a captain. So, in all aspects, from the dressing room, management, I’ve seen great things that have been going on. We’ve been to the Conference Finals a couple of times. Toronto has been successful over the years. But also, there’s things that haven’t gone right, and I’ve experienced that. So, all the experience from actually living in Toronto, being a TML player, I think I can help the organization win.”
Sundin played for the Maple Leafs from 1994-2008, serving as captain starting in his third season with the team. Toronto’s last appearance in the Conference Finals came in 2002, the second of Sundin’s two appearances in the third round with the Maple Leafs.
