Westminster Council apologise for serious misuse of Millwall badge in children’s education booklet

Westminster Council have took to apologise for the serious misuse of a Millwall badge in a children’s education booklet.

The Championship club are considering legal action after an illustration of their club badge placed on a Ku Klux Klan outfit was distributed in schools.

A statement was issued through Millwall Supporters’ Club, with Millwall Football Club saying that the image is a ‘serious misuse of a registered club badge’.

Millwall Supporters’ Club (@TheMillwallFans) tweeted: “Message from Millwall Football Club. The club has received a full apology from Westminster Council following their serious misuse of a registered club badge, which was placed on an illustration of a white supremacist hate group member in a children’s education booklet distributed in schools, creating a false and damaging image of the club.

“The council have confirmed no more copies of the image with the club’s logo will be made or distributed by them and all remaining material in their possession will be destroyed.

“The club is still considering its legal position on the matter and are unable to comment further.”

Timothy Barnes (@VoteTimBarnes), Councillor for West End Ward, @CityWestminster, tweeted: “As the @conservatives lead for Young People and Schools for the opposition on @CityWestminster Council, I can confirm we are asking for details and looking in to this further.

“It seems to be an horrendous misjudgement and the apology that has been sent to @MillwallFC is the very least that should be expected.”

Maynard Manyowa (@iAmKudaMaynard): “What a shame. The 5 times I have shot Millwall away were among the best games as a photographer for me.

“I always sit in front them away.

“Never ever seen a KKK dressed man nor heard a kind of abuse.

“They sing nobody likes us and we are getting fucked by the FA and that’s about that.

“I like to mingle with fans and chat prior to the game and after.

“The characterisation of your fans as racist KKK members is just unfair.

More social media users reacted after Westminster Council apologise for serious misuse of the Millwall badge in a children’s education booklet…

@OfChurchill: Millwall supporters club are doing great work with @kickitout est 1993 to fight racism/tackle all forms of discrimination. Whilst we lean towards Chelsea in our end of London, we’re sorry to see this serious misuse of Millwall’s badge by our council

@fatboyscum: Mental that at no stage did anyone at Westminster council look and realise that by publishing that bollocks they were opening themselves up to accusations of libel/slander. Hope @MillwallFC sue their bollocks off.

@LONBeesKnees: This is disgusting @CityWestminster in the first place but to label it with any football club emblem or even our national game, you lot should not be in such powerful roles. I hope Millwall sues you. Big up to Millwall my visits to both grounds were of the best from your fans 🦁⚽

@gasman_g: Palace fan here, but this was despicable and probably intended to imply that all football fans are racists. Glad you got the apology, but its probably not enough.

@FFS_WhatNow: Sue them and send a message. That’s disgraceful.

@Lukeee_UK: Don’t want just an apology, go full on them give em what they deserve

@nocontextfm1: I promise, no matter how prepared you think you are, you are not ready for the actual image they used 😳

@The_Forty_Four: Absolutely disgraceful Millwall should sue them for using their badge like that.. How could someone possibly think this was a good idea? 🤯 Disgusting.

@HRedpigs: Sue @CityWestminster into the ground, then find out who designed it, who authorised it, and who was on the release panel, and sue them personally as well. Awful behaviour

@Purdz14: Just another case of the demonisation of certain football clubs and their working class fanbase. Shocking

@Paratas1874: Wow, I think Millwall have good cause to sue here

@KimWHU: I think you have every right to sue them. Whoever was responsible for the booklet needs sacking.

@liencam: @rickedwards1 Seek out the image they used (it’s in the replies to this tweet) and write a question about misrepresentation in sports for Saturday’s FT. Quickly!

@CharlieFarnsba9: Sue the arse off them, stereotyping not just football fans but specifically your ones. Bang out of order.

Paul Kendall: An apology should be the start

Peter Shoults: I think the club should follow it up as the material is still out there to get a false impression of out Club.

John Burke: Apology fair enough. But definitely sue them

Karen Olliffe-Callaghan: You have to take legal action.. unbelievable.

@neilahendry: Personally, I hope Millwall sues them for a lot of money. Labelling the clubs fanbase as racist is totally unacceptable.
