PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – JUNE 27: Luka Modric #10 of Croatia is tackled by Thomas Partey #5 of Ghana during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group LCroatia captain Luka Modric believes the victory over Ghana will inspire their tournament after reaching the last 32 of the World Cup.The 2018 World Cup runners-up defeated Ghana 2-1 to advance by finishing second in Group L.Petar Sucic opened the scoring in Philadelphia before Derrick Luckassen levelled in the second half. A late Nikola Vlasic header sealed the win for Croatia. And according to Modric, Ghana gave Croatia a good game on Saturday night.”It was a pretty good game on our part, we achieved our goal of getting through the group and we are happy about that,” a delighted Modric told reporters after the game.”We went into a lot of trouble in the tournament, which I said after Panama. This happened because of the high expectations that we sometimes unnecessarily put on our backs. The environment and the fans also put them on us, but there’s no need, we just have to enjoy it. I said and believed that we would get better as the games went on. The victory against Panama, which was on our muscles, gave us confidence, which was seen with Ghana. This success will help us again on that front, I’m sure that we can play even better. We just need to relax, enjoy and show it.”Croatia will now face Portugal at the round of 32 while Ghana faces Colombia.”We are happy with the first goal, which was minimal, getting through the group. Anything else would be a failure. A new tournament is starting, which is good, which we all love, and we will be ready,” he continued.”We just need to give it our all and enjoy it no matter what. We must not put any additional pressure on ourselves with high expectations. We believe in ourselves, we know how good we are, we just have to continue to show it. I believe these two victories will help us a lot.”
