The remaining two quarterfinals of the WTA Italian Open in Rome will be played on Wednesday, May 12, and fans can expect some great tennis. All four players are ranked inside the top-10, which makes it intriguing and tough to predict. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for these matches, but which players will advance to the semifinals?
WTA Rome Quarterfinal Predictions
Elena Rybakina vs Elina Svitolina
Head-to-Head: Rybakina 4-3 Svitolina
#2 seed Elena Rybakina seems to be back to her best in Rome, as she hasn’t lost more than four games in a set in three matches. She has settled well on clay and is hitting winners from every position just like she does on hard courts. Elina Svitolina is also playing some great tennis and has been one of the best players this season.
Svitolina is much more consistent than any of Rybakina’s previous opponents, which should make this match close. However, when Rybakina is feeling this confident and hitting her stride, it’s difficult to stop her. I am backing the Russian to edge it out in three sets.
Prediction: Rybakina in 3
Iga Swiatek vs Jessica Pegula
Head-to-Head: Swiatek 6-5 Pegula
Iga Swiatek easily defeated four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the fourth round and has advanced to her fifth WTA Rome quarterfinals. After a tough opener against Caty McNally, Swiatek has found her forehand and is playing with strong focus and discipline. She is finding her form at the right time and would be looking to test herself against the best players.
Jessica Pegula put an end to Anastasia Potapova‘s run by displaying some grit in the first set, where she was an early break down. Pegula has won her last two matches against Swiatek, and her serve has been very effective in recent times. However, these are the matches Swiatek needs to win to get her confidence back, and I will go with the three-time champion to come out on top.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
