Game 2 of the Minnesota Timberwolves-San Antonio Spurs series was a blowout on Wednesday, and head coach Chris Finch did not hold back in criticizing the team. The Timberwolves could not capitalize on their Game 1 win on Monday and suffered a 133-95 blowout loss, their worst loss in franchise history, according to ESPN.
The Spurs had the upper hand for most of the game. They hit 50.0% of their attempts on the floor and dominated the boards with 55. On the other end, the Timberwolves’ main players were unable to establish a rhythm.
Star big man Rudy Gobert finished with five points on 25.0% shooting, while All-Star guard Anthony Edwards came off the bench and had 12 points and shot 38.5%.
The Timberwolves’ performance was terrible, and coach Finch knew that the Spurs had outplayed them. Minnesota could not stop even the role players. San Antonio forward Julian Champagnie scored all of his 12 points in the third quarter, and he went 4-for-6 from deep. Victor Wembanyama, who struggled offensively in Game 1, finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds.
All five starters for the Spurs scored in double figures. It was their way of responding to their loss in Game 1. During Finch’s postgame presser, he was asked what he told his team about their performance.
“I just told them we just got punked,” Finch said.

In the first half, the Wolves were held to just 35 points, the team’s fewest points in a half this year (regular season and playoffs).

Coach Finch also said that the team needs to do a better job at executing their offense. He said that most of the time, the team just dribbles nowhere.
Finch anticipates that the Timberwolves will play their style of basketball: filling the gaps and scoring more transition points. The series is tied 1-1, and Minnesota will host the Spurs for Game 3 at the Target Center.
Although Edwards had offensive challenges, the head coach believes they had a productive night from Jaden McDaniels. The starting forward had 12 points on 60.0% shooting. However, he was limited to 19:35 minutes on the floor due to foul trouble. Finch credited McDaniels for his scoring performance but admitted that his fouls were a result of a lack of defensive help from the rest of the team.
“Jaden was a bright spot for us… We didn’t bring enough help, and it derailed his night. We were never able to really benefit from a very good Jaden.”

McDaniels had five fouls and spent a good amount of time on the bench.
