Day 6: Sydney Reminds the World Who She Is!

September 18, 2025

The highlights of Day 6:

  1. The Race for the Ages, the Women’s 400-meter final, lived up to the hype! Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, USA, took gold in 47.78, the second fastest time in history, trailing only Marita Koch’s WR from 1985! Marileidy Paulino, DOM, ran 47.98, NR, becoming the third fastest woman ever. Marileidy never gave up, battling to the very end. Salwa Eid Naser, the 2019 World Champion, was the bronze medalist in 48.19!

  2. Huge upset in Men’s javelin! Keshorn Walcott, TTO, took the gold in 88.16m! This was Walcott’s first global title in thirteen years. Anderson Peters (Grenada) took silver, and Curtis Thompson, USA, took the bronze, the first major medal for an American since 2007! (Keshorn Walcott was the roommate of Jereem Richards, both medaled; only 4 athletes from TTO competed in Tokyo!)

  3. Busang Colle Kebinatshipi, BOT, took the gold in 43.53 WL in the 400 meters. Jereem Richards, TTO, from lane 2, took the silver in NR of 43.72. Bayapo Ndori, BOT, took the bronze. A little trivia, in the Mixed Zone, Bayapo saw that I was from the USA and told me that Botswana would win the 4x400m relay!

  4. Leyanis Perez Hernandez, Cuba, won the Women’s Triple Jump.
  5. Noah Lyles won the semi-final of the 200 meters in 19.51. I was told by one of Noah’s team, when I asked if Noah would run faster in the final, “Noah would be very happy to equal this time in the final!”

  6. The semi-finals of the women’s 800 meters just added to the drama of the event. Keely Hodgkinson, GBR, moved to the semi-finals.  Georgia Hunter-Bell, GBR, also advanced to the semi-finals.
