The Dodgers rushed out to an early lead over the A’s, and Justin Wrobleski continued to quietly build an All-Star case, but the story of this 9-3 victory is obviously Dave Roberts getting to win #1000 already.
As good a time as any to remind everybody that they should forget debates about him being the best manager in Dodgers history, he’s in the running for best manager of all-time when things are all said and done. Sometimes it feels like people who complain about him punting May games or planning for the postseason instead of trying to set some meaningless wins total need to have that realization.

Homer-happy pitcher Jeffrey Springs predictably didn’t have a great time against the homer-happy Dodgers.
Things started more conservatively in the 1st, as Andy Pages singled, Freddie Freeman walked, and then Mookie Betts singled for a run, followed by Teoscar Hernandez hitting a sac fly to make it two early.

They tried to rally again in the 2nd when it started with an error and a walk, but stranded that chance, and it looked like they might do the same in the 3rd. Freddie Freeman started with a double, but two outs followed, so thankfully Kyle Tucker drew a walk and Tommy Edman hammered his first homer of the year for a three-spot.

They then left a pair of singles in the 4th, and has an Edman single picked off in the 5th as Springs looked to settle in. However, Miguel Rojas hit his third homer of the year to lead-off the 6th for yet another run, and after a one-out walk, that was it for Springs.

Their pen got the final two outs of the 6th … and did not have a great time in the 7th.
A lead-off double from Mookie Betts was actually just misplayed in left, then Teoscar Hernandez walked, and after a lineout, Edman singled to left to score a run thanks to another poor read. After a wild pitch, Miguel Rojas hit a sac fly to plate another, then another wild pitch was followed by Dalton Rushing singling in the third run of the inning. That made it nine runs.

To close, they stranded a pair of singles in the 8th, and sent up the minimum in the 9th.

For the Dodgers, it was Justin Wrobleski, and all he did was continue to really look like a legit All-Star.
He did encounter some trouble in the 1st, as an Edman diving play prevented extra bases but still resulted in a one-out single, then with two down Jonah Heim drilled a ball to the wall in right and into the sun for a long single to score a run.
Edman then made another diving stop down the line to end the 1st.

Wrobo then gave up a single to start the 2nd, and after that started a streak of nine in a row retired, including a double play that erased the said single. That was only broken up in the 5th with a one-out double, but Wrobo started a new streak of six in a row retired.

That one ended with a soft one-out single in the 7th, which was unfortunately followed by Colby Thomas mashing a homer for a pair of runs.

Another single was sandwiched between two outs and he got through the 7th inning.

Wrobo pitched great on paper, but he looked even more impressive than that while setting a new career-high in strikeouts: 7 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 11 K, 110 Pitches.

The Shark!
To finish the game for the Dodgers pen that has a bullpen game tomorrow, Brock Stewart got an 8th and gave up just a two-out walk, then Wyatt Miles sealed the game in the 9th with a clean frame.
