Motorsport Manager 2 coming to Steam in 2027 with mod support

Playsport’s Motorsport Manager is making a long-awaited return, with a sequel set to release on Steam in 2027.

With Playsport regaining rights to the PC series, Motorsport Manager 2 is touted as a “deeper, broader and more ambitious” sequel.

The sequel sees players managing a wider roster of motorsport categories, including Single Seater, GT, Endurance and more yet to be announced.

Playsport emphasises that the sequel is an “evolution” of the series and “not a reinvention.” As such, the gameplay loop will be familiar.

“We don’t want to change things just for the sake of it. The original game had a strong core loop, and there’s a reason people are still playing it nearly a decade later,” Playsport wrote in an on Steam, adding that the aim is build on that foundation to make the game “deeper, richer, more flexible, and more alive.”

As before, you take the role of a team principal, hiring drivers, managing finances, building new car parts to stay competitive, expanding facilities and overseeing the team’s long-term strategy.

Building on these foundations, the sequel promises to provide a deeper experience. Teams will now react to changing conditions, pit stops and rivals, adjusting their strategy accordingly. The sequel also introduces a new weather simulation, with conditions that change across different parts of the circuit.

Like its predecessor, Motorsport Manager 2 isn’t tied to official real-world championships, rules or regulations, meaning that players can customise teams, drivers, rivalries and championships. Modding support is also confirmed for launch, allowing players to create new teams and championships.

Since the strategy game isn’t tied to official real-world championships, rules, calendars, or restrictions, players can build their own racing universe with custom teams, drivers, rivalries, championships, and stories.

“Freedom is one of the biggest advantages of Motorsport Manager 2,” said Matt Hanlon, Project Lead at Playsport. “Real-world motorsport is an inspiration, not a limitation. We can draw from different eras, disciplines, formats, rivalries, and stories to create a motorsport world that feels authentic, dramatic, and full of possibility.”

A release date is not yet confirmed, but Motorsport Manager is slated for 2027 on Steam, with a full gameplay reveal set for autumn. It marks the first PC iteration of the series since the original Motorsport Manager launched in 2016.
