Why Liv Morgan Still Hasn’t Defended WWE Women’s World Title

Liv Morgan’s Women’s World Championship reign may be going a long time without a single title defense.

While speaking during a Q&A session, WrestleVotes noted that Morgan is not expected to defend the title anytime soon, despite winning it at WrestleMania 42 over 50 days ago. Joey from WrestleVotes said Morgan’s Queen of the Ring run is part of the reason fans shouldn’t expect a title defense before Night of Champions. He added that WWE may wait all the way until SummerSlam before Morgan finally puts the championship on the line.

“Liv Morgan is in this tournament, and she’ll make the finals over there in Saudi Arabia, so she won’t be defending the title between now and then. Then afterwards, you’re looking at about a month, so they’ll wait for SummerSlam to have her defend it. And then it’s going to be upwards of 80 days, which is ridiculous. She’s not going to defend that title anytime soon.”

TC from WrestleVotes gave more context, saying WWE is being cautious with talent who are injured or dealing with physical issues. TC also claimed Morgan had been part of WWE’s long-term plans heading into WrestleMania 42, but a head injury before the match forced the company to adjust carefully without changing the bigger direction.

“They are being extra careful with talent who have been injured or banged up. They can’t afford people to be out for long periods of time, and this is a result of that. Liv Morgan has been circled, starred, highlighted months going into WrestleMania, and just before her match she got a big bump on her head.”

According to TC, WWE kept its plans in place because it did not want to change course at the last minute. That appears to be why Morgan has now gone more than 50 days without defending the Women’s World Championship.

“They couldn’t have the match they wanted to have, and they didn’t want to change the plans on the fly. That’s why they wanted to keep things status quo for her moving forward. So that’s the reason you’re looking at her going 50+ days now without a title defense—they’re trying to get her healthy and trying not to push the envelope with some of these talents they want to rely on in the long run.”

Morgan already drew backlash after advancing in the Queen of the Ring tournament on the June 8 episode of RAW in Paris. Many fans complained that she should be defending her title instead of chasing another championship opportunity.

Now, this update makes the situation even more notable. If WWE waits until SummerSlam for Morgan’s first title defense, her reign could go around 80 days without the championship being defended.
